In the world of computers, a "bare metal" system is one where a machine runs with minimal code. No operating system. Just the instructions necessary to make things happen.
The Baremetal RPG follows this same philosophy. Here's a bunch of rules that can be used to run a fantasy campaign without requiring you to pore over several textbooks. Great both for introducing people to our beloved hobby and for experienced gamers that like to play with less constraints.

That part of the rules is definitely tough to convey with few words, and you're right that it feels contrived. I'll definitely have another stab at it in future versions :)
